Connect your AI app

Let your AI app work with the Projects you choose, then check that it can read a saved source.

Connect ChatGPT, Claude, or another supported AI app to use your saved files and notes. MCP is the connection standard these apps use. You do not need to learn it to follow the ChatGPT or Claude setup guide.

Workflow

  2. 2Choose the Projects and permissions, then sign in when your app asks.
  3. 3Test access with a saved source. A completed sign-in alone does not prove the app can read it.

1. Save something in Prism

Create a Project and add a file, link, or note. Wait until Prism says it is ready before asking your AI about it.

2. Connect your AI app

Open the signed-in setup guide below and choose ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, or Other AI app. Follow the steps for your app. ChatGPT and Claude use a Prism sign-in where supported; other apps may need a private connection token.

When asked for the server URL, use https://app.tryprism.xyz/api/mcp. Choose which Projects the app can read. Allow editing only if you want it to change your work. Your AI provider receives the material it reads. You can remove access in Connections.

3. Check it with one question

Start a new conversation with Prism enabled. Try: Use Prism to summarize [file name] in [Project name]. Include a link to the source. If you cannot read it, tell me.

Open the source link and check the answer. Signing in is only the first step; this question checks whether the app can actually use your material.

Cannot find the connection option?

Your AI app may require a different plan or permission from your school or work administrator. Check the app requirements linked in the setup guide. You can use Chat in Prism while you sort this out.

If you are connected but a file is missing, check that the file is ready and its Project is selected in Connections. Enable Prism in a new conversation and try again. An administrator may need to refresh or approve the app’s tools after permissions change.

Plan access

Free includes one read/write authorized AI client, up to 100 semantically indexed sources, and 100 accepted MCP calls per UTC calendar week. Standard includes five authorized clients; Pro includes 25. Standard and Pro include unlimited semantic indexing and accepted MCP calls.

Every plan can explicitly authorize currently exposed MCP read/write scopes. knowledge:read remains the safe default; privacy-sensitive and write scopes are never auto-granted, and existing plan and safety limits still apply to writes. Direct Prism API keys remain paid-only. Model-provider keys for Prism Chat and Work are separate and available on every plan.
